RESPONSIBILITIES

Your doctoral thesis will be an integrated part of the joined efforts of the BASF expert panel for endocrine disruption (thyroid modalities) and academic partners to predict and assess molecular initiating events and key events in thyroidal adverse outcome pathways (AOP). Thyroid hormones (TH) are tyrosine-based substances, produced and released by the thyroid gland and involved in metabolism, growth and development over all taxonomic groups. The reliable assessment whether a substance can be considered as endocrine disruptor is a central task in toxicology and risk assessment.

  • Your task will be to further develop analytical methods with our state-of-the-art analytical platform to detect and quantify the most relevant thyroid hormones (e.g. T3, T4, T2, rT3) in biological matrices like plasma or brain.
  • Your results will be the basis in the collaboration with BASF toxicologists, statisticians, modelers and physiologically based pharmacokinetic modelling (PBPK) experts in generating prediction models for potential AOPs.
  • You will investigate endocrine disruption events and discover the in vivo parameters contributing to the definition of adversity.
  • Furthermore, you will enable understanding the dynamics of the development of the thyroidal system with reliable, valid and biologically meaningful data and their interpretation.
  • Your results will be published in major toxicology journals.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in analytical chemistry, biochemistry or related area
  • Ideally some work experience in your area of studies
  • Experienced in operating analysis systems like HPLC, SPE or MS (especially 3Q-MS)
  • Knowledge in metabolism and/or biochemistry is a plus
  • Sound English language skills to clearly communicate scientific results to an interdisciplinary team
  • Motivated and creative team player
