Now hiring! Shift Group Leader - Wyandotte

The Shift Group Leader is responsible for the safe and efficient production activities of the Wyandotte Dispersions & Resins (WYDR) facility in Michigan. Their focus will remain 1) safely executing the daily production schedule, and 2) developing their team performance over time for increasing levels of EHS and technical competency, contribution level and flexibility while respecting others, embracing diversity, collaborating for achievement

WYDR has four Shift Group Leaders working on a rotating schedule with teams A, B, C, and D. Shift Group Leaders  may rotate teams every two or three years, or as required in special cases (business needs, skills alignments, etc.), to encourage a great conception of team. This is a salaried position + straight OT. 

As a Shift Group Leader, you create chemistry by...

  1. Lead the Chemical Plant Operators towards excellence in productivity, quality, safety, reliability, and EHS performance.  Utilizes Mindset & Behaviors tools and principles to drive behaviors; accepts responsibility for results.
  2. Ensure that the shift’s production schedule is executed as planned, adjusting operator assignments, monitoring progress, and addressing all deviations from plan, result is high on-time performance per business requirements.
  3. Assess capabilities of all Chemical Plant Operators, observing their performance in assigned tasks and collaboration for achievement, providing training and coaching to address improvement opportunities while recognizing and spreading effective practices.
  4. Supervise daily operations and activities, creating face-to-face interactions throughout the shift, reinforcing proper EHS and task behaviors while addressing deviations, developing a sense of individual and team accountability for the production team. Shift Group Leaders are active supporters of CHAMPS, performing frequent safety contacts and providing the time and encouragement for their teams to perform safety observations
  5. Participate in contractor in-plant planning and task execution, walking down systems and monitoring scope and EHS adherence, improving overall contractor EHS and project execution.
  6. Leads investigations for safety, quality and process deviations using the process trends and SOPs associated with the process as their compass.
  7. Participate in and lead root cause analysis, ensuring that the teams identify the root causes along with effective corrective actions, driving corrective actions to completion to continually raise the total level of performance.
  8. Provide feedback to Operations Manager and Maintenance team regarding plant and production issues, tracking cost, quality, scheduling, and EHS opportunities for improvement; focus on overall continual improvement in WYDR operational effectiveness.
  9. Serve as single-point contact for the team on high-level scheduling, quality, maintenance issues.

Formula for Success ...

  • High School diploma/GED and 5+ years of chemical plant experience as an operator, team leader or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated excellence in chemical process knowledge, production processes, and results throughout career.
  • Demonstrated commitment in word and deed to working safely at all times, plus leadership in positively influencing other colleagues and teammates to do the same.
  • Demonstrated strong communications skills both within and outside of immediate team.
  • Leadership of teams in a production environment.
  • Participation in processing unit startups or turnarounds.
  • Participation in MOCs, HAZOPs and PSSRs
  • Experience managing the development and document control aspects of quality systems procedures and work instructions
