As a Product Performance & Claims Substantiation Manager, you will be responsible for leading BASF Personal Care product performance, clinical, consumer, and claims-substantiation capabilities. You will oversee testing-center operations, employee leadership, claims methodology development, consumer & clinical performance testing, external study partnerships, and communication of results to internal and customer-facing stakeholders.
As a Product Performance & Claims Substantiation Manager, you create chemistry by…
- Leading the day-to-day execution of the clinical and consumer research center testing schedule, with a focus on research quality, capacity, and continuous improvement, as well as overseeing end-to-end study operations including protocol design, panel recruitment, study execution, data analysis, reporting, and documentation.
- Building and maintaining a reliable pool of clinical panelists in the Tarrytown and Rockland County, NY areas, including oversight of panelist payment processes, while managing the interface with external CROs and designing external clinical or consumer studies when needed.
- Identifying new clinical, consumer, physical, and sensory product claims for personal care ingredients, finished prototypes, and bioactives pipeline projects, as well as developing and improving test methodologies, clinical protocols, and product-performance approaches that support claims substantiation.
- Leading the product performance testing group across clinical, consumer, and sensory evaluations, method development, standard operating procedures, and quality improvements, while assessing current and emerging industry instrumentation and recommending additions or upgrades to strengthen research-center capabilities.
- Managing employees on the Product Performance & Claims Substantiation/testing-center team, including direct-report leadership and prioritization of research activities, as well as managing the testing-center budget and contributing to planning for capital equipment needs.
- Partnering and collaborating with regional sales, marketing, technical, and customer-facing teams to define clear research objectives that translate product-performance data into meaningful claims support, while contributing to global bioactives and new-product-development projects with product-performance teams in Europe and Asia and communicating study results and technical conclusions to internal stakeholders, customers, and external scientific audiences as appropriate.
If you…
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or a related field, a Master’s degree will be preferred.
- Preferrably have 8+ years of R&D experience in personal care, health care, nutrition, or a related industry.
- Preferrably possess 5+ years of experience leading a clinical and consumer research program and conducting clinical and consumer testing, including experience managing a team of direct reports. Experience managing a sizable department budget and capital equipment budget will be preferred.
- Possess strong knowledge of clinical and consumer protocol design, statistics, industry-standard procedures, laboratory practices, and interpretation of test results.
