As the Senior Manager, Crisis Management and Emergency Preparedness – North America, you will establish the regional governance, capabilities, and partnerships required to anticipate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from material disruptions across North American operations. In this role, you will provide strategic leadership for crisis management, emergency preparedness, incident escalation, and operational readiness while partnering across businesses, sites, and functions to identify emerging risks, strengthen organizational capabilities, and convert exercises and incidents into measurable improvements.

As a Sr. Manager, Crisis Management & Emergency Preparedness NA, you create chemistry by...

• Establishing the regional crisis-management and emergency-preparedness framework, standards, and capability roadmap, while identifying emerging risks and influencing major business decisions before readiness gaps become incidents. 
• Coordinating regional crisis escalation and providing leaders with timely scenarios, tradeoffs, recommendations, and clear decision requirements to support effective decision-making during material events. 
• Leading risk-based planning, assessments, exercises, and corrective-action governance to strengthen preparedness and improve readiness across North American businesses and sites. 
• Leading direct reports and the regional emergency-response network by establishing common expectations, developing organizational capability and bench strength, and enabling cross-site learning. 
• Translating incidents, near misses, exercises, and external events into systemic improvements, while ensuring timely closure of material findings and applying lessons learned to strengthen organizational readiness. 
• Governing critical response services and infrastructure, including the hotline, transportation response, TRACER, contractors, mutual-aid relationships, and related training and procedures, to maintain effective regional response capabilities.

If you...

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree. A degree in Emergency Management, Safety, Security, Engineering, or a related field is strongly preferred.
• Bring a minimum of 10 years of experience in Emergency Response, Crisis Management, or an industrial EHS leadership role within the Chemical or Manufacturing industries, along with at least 5 years of leadership experience and demonstrated experience leading multi-site emergency preparedness and incident response programs; equivalent leadership experience in industrial emergency management, fire or hazardous-materials response, operational resilience, business continuity, corporate security, supply-chain disruption, public-sector emergency management, military service, or law enforcement may be considered. 
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge of crisis-management principles, escalation protocols, and Incident Command System (ICS) structures, with the ability to lead coordinated responses to significant operational, environmental, security, or reputational events, as well as have experience developing and testing emergency and crisis plans, facilitating exercises, assessing readiness, and driving corrective actions across a multi-site organization, being able to translate emerging risks and readiness gaps into clear scenarios, tradeoffs, recommendations, and decision requirements for senior leaders. 
• Demonstrate strong enterprise and change leadership, including the ability to make timely decisions under pressure, create clarity during uncertainty, influence across a matrix, and build a learning culture that converts lessons into action, as well as knowledge of executive communications, employee notifications, media considerations, and internal and external stakeholder engagement. 
• Bring Spanish-language proficiency as a desirable qualification; preferred credentials include ICS/NIMS training, Certified Emergency Manager, CBCP or equivalent, and relevant hazardous materials or industrial-response certification.
• Are able to travel 20% of the time.

Pay transparency

BASF is committed to pay transparency practices. The competitive Pay Range for this role is $160,000 - $200,000. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
