As a Regional Sr. Environmental Specialist, you will provide technical and regulatory multi-media environmental expertise to support our sites and business units across North America, help drive sustainability and continuous improvement, and identify issues and opportunities to minimize risks and maintain BASF reputation. You will work with our North American and Global teams to develop effective and efficient company environmental programs, requirements, guidance documents, implementation tools and training.
As a Regional Sr. Environmental Specialist, you create chemistry by...
- Providing multimedia environmental expert support (regulatory interpretations and implementation strategies) to sites, BUs, and Legal, on compliance / enforcement issues, related to current internal / external environmental requirements and permits, with focus on water and waste issues and regulations relevant to the chemical industry.
- Monitoring new environmental regulatory developments, evaluating impacts on BASF, coordinating responses to regulatory information requests related to rule development, communicating requirements and working with potentially impacted sites and businesses on compliance strategies.
- Developing and implementing regulatory advocacy strategies (directly and through trade associations) that support BASF interests. You will work closely with our Legal team to manage enforcement issues and help protect BASF’s license-to-operate and reputation with public, regulators and non-governmental organizations.
- Supporting BASF Responsible Care© Management Systems to ensure environmental compliance, risk reduction, and continuous performance improvement, while ensuring a high level of satisfaction with our internal site and business partners.
- Identifying opportunities to improve our environmental performance and reduce our environmental footprint, and work with our Global and Regional colleagues and leaders on implementing sustainable solutions. You will also support achievement of BASF’s sustainability targets, as well as work with sites and businesses to identify and prioritize EHS issues and opportunities and develop action plans to reduce EHS risks and improve EHS performance.
- Developing and providing environmental training on regulatory and BASF requirements and issues. Your ability to build solid working relationships with team members, site leadership teams, site and business EHS personnel, and other internal / external stakeholders, will be crucial to help you facilitate the sharing of programs, procedures, tools, and successfully demonstrated practices across sites and business.
- Participating in capital project EHS reviews to ensure environmental regulatory and permitting impacts are adequately managed. At the same time, you will support environmental permitting for sites and major capital projects.
If you...
- Have a bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science fields.
- Have extensive knowledge of US EPA water and waste regulations. Additional air expertise would be a plus.
- Have 8+ years’ experience implementing U.S. Environmental Protection Agency water and waste regulations at industrial sites. Additional experience implementing air regulations and/or working for a chemical manufacturing site would be a plus.
- Familiarity with Texas, Louisiana and/or Michigan environmental regulations and programs would be a plus.
- Are able and willing to travel 15% of the time.
