The primary purpose of this role is to manage the execution of capital and expense projects and to provide technical engineering support. The position also supports technical initiatives related to operations and plant optimization. The position works in close collaboration with site project engineers and managers to support the successful planning, scope development and execution of capital projects.
As a Project Engineer, you create chemistry by...
- Capital Project Management: Lead all phases of assigned capital and/or expense projects in alignment with site priorities and capital budgets. Responsibilities include scope development, cost estimation, Plan of Measures (POM) development, SAP entry, procurement, construction management, commissioning, and startup. Ensure completion of EHS Step Reviews, Management of Change (MOC), and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA). All activities must comply with BASF Capital Project Policies and Procedures. Projects must be delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
- Operational Support: Provide engineering support to operations and maintenance for process troubleshooting, reliability improvements, and problem resolution. This may involve leading or participating in cross-functional teams, as well as contributing to informal workgroups. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential.
- Plant Optimization: Identify and support initiatives to improve process performance and reduce costs. Execute optimization efforts through individual contributions or team-based initiatives, depending on project scope and complexity.
- Operate independently with general direction and oversight. Assignments are provided in the form of project objectives, with periodic reviews to assess progress, identify risks or obstacles, and determine appropriate solutions.
- Manage capital projects with financial responsibility up to €2.5M.
If you have...
- Associate of Science (A.S.) in Engineering or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
- 2 -5 years of experience in the Chemical, Pharmaceutical or manufacturing industry or 5+ years of extensive manufacturing experience combined with technical/vocational training may be considered in lieu of a formal degree (case-by-case basis)
- Experience in a minimum of at least two different roles in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong project management skills. Ability to independently lead small projects (budget, schedule, scope and quality)
- Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint. Microsoft Project and SAP skills are preferred.
- Experience with engineering software (e.g., PipeFlo) is preferred
- Ability to work with limited supervision, guided by defined objectives
- Possess strong analytical and mechanical aptitude skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Must possess interpersonal communication skills working and collaborating successfully with other functions (Engineering/Maintenance/Contractors)
- Sound understanding of basic chemical process equipment such as pumps, valves, piping, reactors, distillation columns, heat exchanger and compressors.
- Understanding of E&IC controls strategies and instrumentation.
- Capable to read and interpret technical documentation (Process flow diagrams, P&ID diagrams)
