As a Manager, Occupational Safety & Industrial Hygiene, you will be responsible for leading and advancing the OSIH strategy and regulatory compliance across North America. You will ensure effective implementation of risk-based safety and Industrial Hygiene programs, promote a strong safety culture, and enable digital and standardized approaches to OSIH management, by ensuring regulatory compliance, driving serious injury and fatality (SIF) prevention, industrial hygiene excellence while supporting EHS operational performance working collaboratively with Operating Divisions, Sites, Corporate Centers, Audit teams, and technical experts.

  • Driving the North America OSIH strategy and requirements by defining roles, responsibilities, and accountability models, while standardizing and simplifying OSIH procedures and requirements. You will also ensure region‑wide compliance with applicable regulations such as OSHA, CSA, and NOM, and monitor regulatory developments and changes to maintain alignment.
  • Developing and supporting comprehensive industrial hygiene programs and teams across North America by leading initiatives that include exposure assessments and the monitoring and control of chemical, physical, and ergonomic hazards, ensuring programs are compliant and effective.
  • Leading OSIH safety programs and strengthening safety culture by guiding expert services teams that provide support across all OSIH safety programs, including contractor safety. You will also drive the identification and management of critical risks, support life‑saving rules and critical safety standards, promote proactive risk identification and ownership, and ensure effective learning from high‑potential incidents and near misses, while supporting the exchange and implementation of Americas‑wide safety culture initiatives.
  • Implementing and enhancing digital EHS platforms and reporting tools by leveraging data analytics to identify trends and predict risks, while improving data integration across safety, industrial hygiene, and operational systems.
  • Developing and supporting competency‑based OSIH training programs to strengthen workforce capability and ensure alignment with safety, industrial hygiene, and regulatory requirements.
  • Driving continuous improvement through audits, assessments, and KPIs by benchmarking performance against industry standards such as ACC Responsible Care, while leading root cause analysis and lessons learned processes to reinforce sustainable improvements.

If you...

 

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field, with a CSP Certification. Advanced degrees and/or CIH Certification will be a plus.
  • Possess 10+ years of experience in EHS, industrial hygiene in a manufacturing or chemical environment, with proven strategic leadership experience in multi-site or regional roles.
  • Have strong knowledge of North American regulatory frameworks (OSHA, CSA, NOM), strong understanding of regulatory compliance and deep technical expertise in Occupational Safety and Industrial Hygiene.
  • Display excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence across all organizational levels and change management skills.
  • Show data-driven decision-making skills and digital mindset.
  • Are able and willing to travel 50% of the time.

Pay transparency

 

BASF is committed to pay transparency practices. The competitive pay range for this role is $172,400 - $215,500. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
