The primary purpose of this role is to support day-to-day operation of the plant via technical expertise and process knowledge, ensuring safe and efficient execution of required production plan. This position requires strong leadership in safe plant operation and adherence to BASF Process Safety rules and policies as well as applicable environmental regulations. The incumbent plays a key role in driving standardization across shifts, optimizing fixed and variable unit costs, and working closely with other support groups such as Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Process Development. This role is instrumental in leading troubleshooting efforts when problems arise and provides technical solutions to the Operations team. A core function is leading continuous improvement projects and activities as we strive to improve the efficiency of the assets, manage operating cost, and increase production capacity.

As a Production Engineer III, you create chemistry by...

 

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to Daily Operational Team for plant problems that occur. Support and lead AIMS (incident) and Quality investigations via RCFA. Engineer will share on-call responsibilities with other plant personnel for events that impact production or EHS.

 

  • Employ operational knowledge and engineering skills as responsible person for key Process Safety / PSM / RMP / RCMS elements and processes including MOCs, PSSRs, and Operational Procedures. This includes developing and maintain documentation for regulatory compliance as it relates to manufacturing.

 

  • Apply production expertise to operate the plant strategically and tactically, managing asset throughput, utilization, and product quality. Provide guidance and input to the achievement and development of plant goals, objectives, and operational budgets. Utilize operational knowledge to assign lost production via Asset Effectiveness tools (GAP).

 

  • Drive innovation and optimization via production improvements for safety, quality, productivity, and sustainability. Demonstrate CI and LSS skillset by implementing OpEx projects to improve plant P&L, minimize waste, and work towards BASF’s Net Zero emissions goals.

 

  • Lead plant Process Technology, leveraging foundational relationships with R&D, Process Development, and Product Management to launch new products and manage existing portfolio. Execute plant-level MOCs and provide Technology approval of product changes through the PPMD process. Coordinate trials to support strategic development of new products, markets, and customers while minimizing plant upsets.

 

  • Engage across the organization, coordinating production planning, schedule, and outage with Supply Chain and Maintenance. Interface with suppliers, customers, and vendors as needed to maintain plant operation

 

  • Act as manufacturing representative, offering input on strategic capital projects to ensure they meet functional requirements and achieve business targets.

If you have...

 

  • BS Degree in Engineering (preferably Chemical Engineering)
  • 8+ years of experience working in a chemical or similar manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of chemical engineering principles and application in a plant environment, including heavy emphasis on process safety and basic familiarity with process equipment
  • Results-oriented self-starter, with record of achieving success under limited supervision, guided by plant-level targets
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Significant interpersonal communication skills, coordinating and collaborating successfully with other functions (R&D, Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Product Management)
  • Ability to adapt to regular changes in priorities as required in a dynamic production environment
