RESPONSIBILITIES
- You will be responsible for projects in this field and closely co-operating with R&D Crop Protection
- Furthermore, you will actively identify needs of researchers, translate these into R&D software specifications and be part of the implementation team.
- You will propose and discuss solutions on FAIR data, API-fication and data analytics to researchers, scientists as well as developers. Therefore, you will be acting as an enabler in interdisciplinary project teams.
- You develop novel analytics modules for our R&D teams for the Field Agronomy domain to generate, manipulate, and visualize their data from multiple internal and external data sources
- In the team, you not only create and maintain an automated data pipeline but also contribute to long-term solutions in our digital ecosystem
- Finally, you will also keep an overview of the latest developments in data science especially focused on the open-source world and actively take part in specialist communities within BASF
REQUIREMENTS
- Strong background in IT with an interest in natural sciences and preferably working experience in agile methodologies Internal
- Hands-on experience with PowerBuilder and C++
- Experience in developing data processing workflows in Python and in developing code to interface with SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Hands-on experience using and setting-up both relational (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite) and non-relational (e.g. MongoDB, JSON, XML, Neo4j) databases and data formats.
- Experience with Javascript frameworks (Angular, Vue/Nuxt)
- Familiar with best practices for code documentation, formatting, versioning, and unit/integration testing
- Strong experience in developing APIs using Python (Flask, FastAPI, ...)
- Operating knowledge of system and/or data-base administration
- Working and operating knowledge of containerization (e.g. Docker) and Kubernetes, ideally operating knowledge in setting up cloud infrastructure (e.g. Azure, AWS)
- Familiarity with ETL processes (extraction, transformation, and loading of data), manipulation of CSV files, data integration, and text matching/transformations using regular expressions
- Creative and motivated working style with a strong focus on innovation
- Fluent English language skills as well as your excellent communication skills enable you to explain complex systems in non-technical language
- Experience in working in a scientific environment
- Knowledge in statistics, especially for agricultural data is beneficial
