RESPONSIBILITIES
- You will be responsible for projects in this field and closely co-operate with stakeholders within R&D Crop Protection
- You will actively identify needs of researchers, understand data requirements and translate these into R&D software specifications and analytics workflows
- You will be involved in developing and optimizing databases for storing, retrieving, and managing bioinformatics data, ensuring data integrity and FAIR data principles
- Furthermore, you will communicate and discuss ideas with researchers, scientists as well as developers. Therefore, you will be acting as an enabler in interdisciplinary project teams
- You develop novel analytics modules for our R&D teams for early Crop Protection research, field trials / agronomy teams & digital phenotyping community to generate, manipulate, and visualize their data from multiple internal and external data sources
- In the team, you not only create and maintain automated data pipelines for processing and analyzing large-scale biological datasets but also contribute to the overall digital ecosystem with long-term solutions
- Finally, you will also keep an overview of the latest developments in bioinformatics digital tools and algorithms, especially focused on the open-source world and actively take part in internal specialist communities within BASF
REQUIREMENTS
- Solid foundation in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Systems Biology, or related field with a strong background in IT and proficient programming skills
- Strong skills in data manipulation using bioinformatics libraries and frameworks, including managing, processing and statistical modeling of bioinformatics data
- Hands-on experience in working with large-scale, sequence-based and/or multi dimensional biological data sets (e.g. genomics and transcriptomics data), understanding statistical methods and their application in biological contexts, and organizing complex data analysis pipelines and workflows
- Experience using and setting-up both relational (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite) and non-relational (e.g. MongoDB, JSON, XML, Neo4j) databases and data formats and in developing code to interface with SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Familiarity with ETL processes (extraction, transformation, and loading of data)
- Familiar with best practices for code documentation, formatting, versioning, and unit/integration testing and preferably working experience in agile methodologies
- Creative and motivated working style with a strong focus on innovation, fluent English language skills as well as your excellent communication skills which define you as an effective team player
