Internship Modeling for Advanced Process Safety (m/f/d)

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

Our research team develops advanced safety concepts to ensure the safe operation of high-risk polymerization processes in BASF plants worldwide. Our model-based safety concepts use thermodynamic and kinetic models as well as online process data to detect and prevent critical operating conditions in production plants. We develop and improve safety concepts using our own software tools and apps, which enable us to efficiently create and test safety models based on real process data. You will have the opportunity to get to know our Chemical & Process Engineering unit and actively apply your acquired knowledge over a period of 3 to 6 months.

• During your internship, you will be part of the development of a novel toolbox that will be used to develop, test and optimize new model-based safety concepts.
• For its development, you will combine different modeling approaches and data sources with the aim of evaluating the safety of a process in real time.
• You will have access to real process data for development and validation.
• You will discuss and present your results to the project team in order to jointly determine the next project steps.

WHAT YOU OFFER

• enrolled in Master studies in natural sciences or engineering with an affinity for process engineering and programming
• good knowledge of object-oriented programming, e.g. Python or Matlab
• confident communication in German or English
• creative ideas and joy for solving process engineering problems using innovative software solutions are very welcome
• strong team and communication skills
• passion to use digital tools and to actively search optimization potential for own processes through improved data management and automation
