BASF is currently building a new Verbund site in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province. Announced in July 2018 and officially commenced in November 2019, BASF Zhanjiang Verbund Site Project would be BASF’s largest investment with up to US$10 billion upon completion and would be operated under the sole responsibility of BASF. BASF Zhanjiang Verbund site would ultimately be the third-largest BASF site worldwide, and will be built into a role model for smart manufacturing and sustainable production by utilizing the latest digital technologies and applying the highest safety standards.





  • Responsible to provide technical quality supervision and welding services for entire BIG Verbund site such as tailormade RisQ QA/QC concepts projects, welding and inspection contractor management (e.g. welder access control), quality surveillance of all kinds of chemical equipment during fabrication, welding consultancy during TAR and troubleshooting for welded equipment in operation to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Representative of technical expertise for “Quality Supervision and Welding” at BIG Verbund site, enhance and coordinate relevant activities in regional and global Technical Community, facilitate networks with supplier and sub-supplier for chemical equipment and local inspection/ testing service providers (e.g. 3rd party companies, PMC companies).


Main Tasks


  • Develop and execute customized RisQ QA/QC concepts projects based on individual project requirements including quality and inspection plan, support supplier selection, budget estimation (and monitoring) and staffing for chemical equipment such as pressure vessels, piping spools, bulk and semi-finished material, steel structure.
  • Review and verify suppliers’ and/or contractors’ quality documents (e.g. drawings, ITP, WPS/PQR, inspection and testing procedures) to check compliance with BASF and BIG site specifications, company guidelines, legal regulations and (national and international) codes and standards (e.g. GB, ASME, ISO, TSG, API, BASF Technical Rules).
  • Coordinate all quality and welding related inspections for internal and external resources (e.g. 3rd party inspection/ testing service providers) based on aligned QA/QC concept, analyze and review inspection reports, communicate quality, cost and schedule deviations including further actions verbally and/or in written to related persons (e.g. project team, supplier, contractor) and follow up the rectification of these deviations.
  • Execute all quality and welding related inspections for in-shop SQS during fabrication and for on-site quality and welding supervision of chemical equipment such as pressure vessels, piping spools, bulk & semi-finished material, steel structure.
  • Support BIG Verbund site plant operation teams (e.g. Maintenance, Operation, Asset Management) during MRO projects and/or TAR for troubleshooting, root cause analysis for welded equipment and consult for equipment design including upgrade and/or modification solutions (fabrication and welding related), weld repair, welding procedures, welding quality supervision and provide technical support for the follow-up.


Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, materials engineering, welding or equivalent. Master’s degree will be an advantage.
  • At least 6 years total work experience with minimum 3 years’ experience in quality control. International experience and leadership experience will be an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of quality management systems, QA/QC systems and of QA/QC philosophy
  • Good knowledge of Chinese and international engineering and codes and standards (e.g. GB, AWS, ASME, ASTM, EN).
  • Good knowledge and experience in inspection and fabrication process of fabricated equipment (e.g. pressure vessels, heat exchangers, columns), bulk materials for pipes and machinery.
  • Good knowledge and experience of different kinds of welding methods and their applications.
  • Good communication skills to facilitate cross-discipline communication, to manage interfaces and to drive a continuous improvement process.
  • Good skills of spoken & written technical English.
  • Willingness to travel frequently within Asia Pacific.
