Objectives of the Position

• Supports the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Utilities plants to ensure continuous supply of utilities to the site and production plants according to required quality and operational demand.

• Provides operational support to Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) activities through monitoring, sampling, laboratory testing and routine operational tasks to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, regulatory and operational requirements.

Main Areas of Responsibilities and Key Activities

Boiler Operation

1. Supports the safe and reliable operation of Utilities plants and ensures equipment is maintained in good operational condition, including:

i. Treated water storage and supply system, Water Demineralization Plant, Cooling Water System, and Fire Hydrant pumping facilities.

ii. Steam generation plants and steam distribution system.

iii. Air compressors and compressed air supply system.

iv. Nitrogen Membrane Generator, LIN storage and evaporator, and nitrogen distribution system.

2. Support to operate and monitor the Diesel Engine Emergency Generator set during TNB power failure or emergency situations.

3. Records daily stock levels and consumption of utilities direct and indirect raw materials, including boiler gas fuel, water treatment chemicals, and other related consumables.

4. Supports the recording and updating of daily utilities supply data and operating parameters in computerized log sheets to ensure accurate operational records

5. Assists maintenance technicians during maintenance activities, major overhauls, plant shutdowns, troubleshooting, and repair works on Utilities equipment and machinery.

6. Supports the site Emergency Response Plan, including firefighting activities and other emergency requirements, as instructed.

Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Support Operations

1. Supports the operation and routine monitoring of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) to ensure stable operation and compliance with environmental, safety and operational requirements.

2. Support Performs routine wastewater sampling, field inspections, laboratory testing and operational checks in accordance with established procedures, monitoring plans and schedules.

3. Assists in monitoring and recording key operational and laboratory parameters, including pH, COD, flow, sludge-related observations and other relevant process indicators to support effective WWTP operation.

4. Assists the WWTP Technician/Competent Person in routine plant operation, troubleshooting activities, process monitoring and follow-up actions arising from abnormal operating conditions.

5. Supports sludge handling, dewatering, storage, documentation and scheduled waste management activities in accordance with applicable regulatory and site requirements.

6. Maintains accurate operational records, laboratory results, inspection findings and related documentation to support environmental compliance and reporting requirements.

7. Reports abnormalities, equipment issues, process deviations or potential compliance concerns to the superior or WWTP responsible person for further evaluation and action.

Others

1. Supports the implementation and compliance of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, 5S, Process Safety Management, and other site management systems by practicing established procedures and requirements.

2. Maintains good housekeeping and cleanliness at Utilities plants, Wastewater Treatment Plant areas, and related work locations.

3. Supports safe work practices and complies with BASF safety, health, environmental, quality, and operational requirements at all times.

4. Performs any additional duties or tasks assigned by management from time to time.

Job Requirements (minimum requirement to carry out the work) 

  • Minimum Diploma in Environment, Chemical or Mechanical background
  • Possess a valid 2nd Grade Boiler Operator Certificate.
  • Possess relevant DOE certifications such as CePIETSO-PCP and CePSWaM.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in Boiler Operation, with hands-on knowledge and skills in boiler system troubleshooting.
  • Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience in Wastewater Treatment Plant operations would be an added advantage. Technical & Professional Knowledge
  • Strong technical knowledge of boiler operation, including equipment and machinery design, function, operating limitations, maintainability, and safety features.
  • Good understanding of local regulatory requirements related to boiler operation.
  • Additional knowledge of utilities systems such as Water Demineralization Plant, Air Compressors, Nitrogen Membrane Generators, LIN Evaporator, and related distribution systems.
  • Able to use computers for routine work management and familiar with common Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Good command of English, with the ability to speak, read, and write effectively.
  • Familiar with management systems and workplace practices such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001/18001, 5S, and other BASF site standards.
