Objectives:

  • Provide guidance based on industry and market knowledge of Engineering Plastics, Polyols, Polyurethane (PU) Systems and Thermoplastic Polyurethanes business
  • Review tax requirements for cross border business in the Asia Pacific region especially for markets like Vietnam and China
  • Familiar with business models according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) guideline
  • Drive transfer price discussions with upstream and downstream businesses within the company, Asia Pacific and cross regions.
  • Ability to synthesize information for local statutory reporting and on a consolidated business steering level
  • Have insights on business steering for both commodity and specialty chemical business
  • Drive digitalization initiatives for the regional business unit (RBU) controlling and change management processes from controlling perspective
  • Support Senior Management with adequate information to steer the business successfully and highlight issues/risk proactively and timely for the strategic business unit (SBU) and Industries
  • Support the business in pricing related matters: third party product price benchmarking, pricing evaluations related to new business model, transparency to costings across value chains
  • Perform monthly reporting, forecasting and business analysis.
  • Drive and coordinate operational planning and budgeting process across legal entities in Asia
  • Provide market results to RBU business management/ Local Business Managers (LBMs) and support the subsequent profitability analysis.
  • Support business to optimize costs across value chains in areas such as make-or-buy decisions, business model optimizations, business process improvements
  • Perform business case evaluations pertaining to investments together with relevant parties based on knowledge of influencing factors in the chemical industry
  • Act as the focal point for business related questions of the direct reports and the local business country controllers / LBMs in Asia Pacific; be the coach / mentor for newly hired staff
  • Ensure compliance in business process and financial bookings. To also support any audit enquiries and support business in process improvements as a result of audit findings.
  • Liaise with the HQ in Brussels for controlling matters and strategy matters
  • Support RBU Controller in performing controlling responsibilities and tasks.
  • Ensure constant improvements of all related reports, systems and processes.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Drive digitalization activities – interfacing between controlling and relevant stakeholders and drive change management. Projects would include implementing and harmonize Dashboard reporting solutions across Asia Pacific, develop usage cases of Big Data / statistical modelling for controlling, support the bigger digitalization activities of RBU where controlling inputs are needed
  • Perform monthly reporting, forecasting and business analysis:
    1. Prepare and report business results such as Monthly Reports, Division and Controlling report. Provide accurate, comprehensive and timely RBU reports, which meet user requirements and allow accurate tracking of business performance and development. Continuously improve the reporting quality, foster simplicity/transparency in the reporting process and improve forecasting accuracy.
    2. Perform business analysis and prepare periodical / ad hoc reports to support business decisions and to improve business performance / profitability (e.g. sensitivity analysis of changing raw material prices; fluctuations driven by price, volume and exchange rate). Analyse business performance and translate results in an easy to understand manner.
  • Drive and coordinate operational planning and budgeting process between the regions and with the HQ in Brussels: Prepare the related reports (Profit & Loss, CAPEX, risk, scenario and presentation) and coordinate all involved parties. Ensure link between top-down targets and bottom-up planning. Conduct gap analysis between actual and planned data.
  • Provide market results to RBU business management/LBM and support the subsequent profitability analysis: Prepare and distribute monthly 'market result' report (e.g. sales, margin). Ensure accuracy of results, provide interpretation and analyse deviations/abnormalities. Support Global / Regional Key Account managers in customer profitability analysis.
  • Provide financial transparency to business cases, evaluating options together with relevant business partners (e.g. product management, technology)
  • Ensure compliance in business related transactions e.g. contracts, correctness and timely financial bookings.
  • Act as an expert link with IT/IS accounting and reporting systems: Drive efficiency through optimal use of BASF standard IT/IS systems. Act as an expert and coordinate training across RBU to improve system use, utilise all available systems to create more in-depth reporting/analysis and reduce manual efforts.
  • Support digitalization and automation initiatives within the team
  • Support RBU Controller in performing controlling responsibilities and tasks: Prepare and provide ad-hoc reports and analysis as and when required.
  • Ensure constant improvements of all related reports, systems and processes: Utilize the knowledge in the organisation to strive for constant improvements in all related areas.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance & Accounting (Master's preferred), ACA / CPA or equivalent
  • Minimum 8 - 10 years’ experience in Accounting and Controlling
  • Financial analysis skills in the Chemical industry with upstream and downstream business knowledge across the different value chains
  • Prior experience with local requirements in developing Asian nations is preferred e.g., Southeast Asia, China and South Asia markets
  • Able to link technical capabilities of reporting tools and systems with stakeholder requirements
  • Forecasting concepts & Big Data knowhow
  • Sound knowledge of SAP, Business Warehouse systems and dashboard solutions
  • Familiarity with SAP and Business Warehouse reporting structure
  • High Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint
  • Require good problem solving and communication skills
  • High drive for achievement
