Objectives

 

  • bridge development with commercial manufacturing.
  • Lead and coordinate the transfer of innovative chemical manufacturing processes from laboratory development through pilot-scale validation and commercial production with external partners at toll manufacturing sites.
  • collaborate closely with Process Development scientists, tolling steering manager and external toll manufacturing organizations to ensure robust, safe, and economically viable production processe

 

Main Tasks

 

  • Lead end-to-end technology transfer projects from laboratory through pilot-scale validation and commercial manufacturing with external partners and toll manufacturers.
  • Develop and execute technology transfer plans to ensure smooth implementation at manufacturing sites.
  • Establish clear project objectives, timelines, deliverables, and success criteria.
  • Evaluate process scalability, equipment compatibility, and manufacturing feasibility.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive technology transfer packages.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks associated with process scale-up.
  • Support pilot plant campaigns and analyze results to optimize process performance.
  • Provide technical support during production startup, validation, and commercial manufacturing.
  • Troubleshoot process, yield, quality, or operational issues during scale-up and introduction into mass production.
  • Work with manufacturing teams to improve productivity, cost efficiency, process robustness, and product quality.
  • Monitor critical process parameters and establish process control strategies.
  • Generate project reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as the technical interface between BASF and contract manufacturing partners.
  • Take part to or conduct technical assessments of external manufacturing facilities.
  • Support pilot & production trials and process validation activities at tolling sites.
  • Ensure all process transfers comply with BASF EHS standards, safety & operational standards, local regulatory requirements, quality management systems and customer requirements.
  • Contribute to process innovation and best-practice sharing across BASF Global manufacturing networks.
  • Be an active part of cross-functional teams to ensure timely execution of project milestones.

 

Minimum Education and Qualification Required for the Position

 

Education

  • Engineer Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemical Process Engineering, Industrial Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field with significant industrial experience in chemical manufacturing and process scale-up
  • Alternatively PhD in Chemistry with experience in Industrial Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Process Chemistry, or a related discipline with significant industrial experience in chemical manufacturing and process scale-up.

Language

  • Chinese native + Fluent in English written and spoken.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Chinese and English.

Professional experience

  • Minimum 3 years of industrial experience in Chemical manufacturing, Technology transfer, Process scale-up or Pilot plant operations
  • Proven experience in transferring processes from laboratory to pilot scale and commercial production.
  • Experience in working with external contract manufacturers or toll manufacturers is highly desirable.
  • Experience in specialty chemicals, performance materials, coatings, polymers, electronic materials or related industries is an advantage.
  • Understanding of process safety and manufacturing risk assessment methodologies is an added value.
