About The Role
The primary objectives of the Packaging Technical Consultant for Regional Packaging Categories in Asia are to:
- Be responsible for developing and maintaining technical specifications and standards, while working with Category Buyers in optimizing packaging costs within the broader framework of BASF’s sustainability goals and product stewardship requirements.
- Provide optimum packaging selection and use for all BASF group companies and business units from technical perspective in Asia Pacific in order to be in compliance with international regulations, local laws and BASF internal requirements
- Optimize the packaging specification and portfolio in the region to reduce complexity and ensure cost effectiveness.
- Represent BASF for the packaging supplier technical assessments, and lobbying related local authorities to enhance packaging quality and cost effectiveness
- Drive sustainability as a topic for future packaging solutions
How Will You Do It
Operational tasks Packaging Consultant for Regional Packaging Categories in Asia:
- Plan, organize, and schedule the implementation of the optimization of packaging specification from technical perspective and portfolio in Asia Pacific, ensure consistency and adherence to BASF global standard
- Provide clear supplier-independent packaging specifications (BASPACK/PackSTEP) to be part of the regional or global contracts with the suppliers.
- Provide delegated supervision, guidance including training to business units, group companies, and procurement hubs in the region regarding the selection of the optimum packaging to ensure safety, quality, and cost effectiveness.
- Active regional and external communication with regards to all packaging related topics with various shareholders including global and regional packaging procurement, business units, supply chain and logistics, country indirect procurement as well as with regional transportation and distribution safety
- Market Intelligence: Monitor the market for relevant packaging technology developments through data analysis and regular communication with suppliers and other external parties.
- Supplier Management: Establish technical KPIs and follow up on the improvement plan of packaging suppliers, including claims in case of non- conformity together with category team. Contribute to supplier performance, ensuring adherence to BASF requirements including quality, quantity, and service response. Maintain regular communication with suppliers to foster good relationships and prompt corrective actions when needed. Act as the escalation point for packaging suppliers. Represent BASF for the packaging supplier assessments, and lobbying related local authorities to enhance packaging quality and cost effectiveness

Address sustainability topics, including conducting supplier assessments/audits and mitigating business risks. Implement initiatives such as Together for Sustainability (TfS), comply with the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act, manage CO2 emissions discussions and compliance with relevant legislation, such as Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.
What We Look For
- Education: Bachelor Degree in Packaging Engineering / Chemical Engineering / Material science / Polymer Science
- Working Experience: Good knowledge in packaging technical knowledge, international transportation regulations, and chemical product safety information. Familiarity with manufacturing processes related to packaging. Knowledge of standards and testing methods for packaging durability, integrity, and safety. Candidates with relevant working experience in technical consultancy is a plus.
- Project management skills from concept through to implementation, including stakeholder management.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration mindset, with proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional and multicultural teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, consulting and communication skills
- Proficiency in data analytics and digital tools (e.g., Power BI, SAP, Excel, AI-based analytics) for packaging performance monitoring and decision making.
- Basic business acumen to understand the interplay between technical and business topics. Entrepreneurial spirit to drive savings initiatives.
- Fluency in English and Hindi. Any other international language is a plus.
- Willingness to travel frequently within India and across Asia Pacific (approximately 20–40%) for supplier audits, technical assessments, and project implementation
