Objective of the Position:

  • Materials Engineer is to provide specialist services in materials engineering and inspection covering the entire life cycle of BASF group operation sites and business units.

 

How You Will Do It

  • Manage NDT related activities, including but not limited to: coordinate the implementation of NDT jobs and ensure NDT job quality; develop and manage NDT and special NDT contractors and ensured testing quality and contractors’ performance; developing and update related specifications and procedures. Conduct NDT testing/verification by own when necessary.
  • Conducting inspections (during fabrication and in-service) of assets.
  • Helping BASF group operation sites to evaluate asset (static equipment, piping and components) status with proper methods.
  • Involve and assess external resources (e.g., metallographic /corrosion labs, third party inspection agencies) according BASF needs. Review and appraisal of test results and analysis reports provided by external contactors or manufacturers. Tracking and ensuring their service quality and evaluation their performances.
  • Evaluation of possible damage mechanisms on basis of the plant operation parameters to develop customized inspection concepts/methods.
  • Radar function on the market for new materials for special purposes, new testing and inspection technologies
  • Finish other jobs assigned by line manager.

 

What We Look For 

  • Bachelor's Degree in material science, material engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in NDT is preferred.
  • Deep knowledge about non-destructive testing methods, experience in NDT for chemical industry
  • Knowledge about material processing (casting, forging, rolling, heat treatment, welding, etc.)
  • Knowledge about analysing methods (preparation of metallographic sections, electron microscopy, testing of properties, etc.)
  • Knowledge about non-metallic materials (e.g., FRP, glass-lined equipment, plastics, graphite) as plus
  • English language ability as working language
  • Analytical and logic thinking
  • Communication and interpersonal understanding skills
