Objectives of the Position

 

  • Lead the Global Trade Compliance operations at KL Hub to ensure adherence to the regulatory requirements related to import, export and domestic transactions; assign material classifications, support license management and manage blocked orders
  • Undertake Trade Compliance related projects, solution development, communication and training within the Company to meet the legal requirements and BASF standard for trade compliance

 

 

Main Tasks

 

  • As the team leader of Trade Compliance Asia Pacific Operations, lead the team to execute trade compliance related operation activities for BASF Group companies to ensure compliance to international and national regulations (e.g. Chemical Weapons, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, Ozone Depleting Substances and Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases, Explosives, Embargo and Sanctioned Party Compliance etc.), including material classifications and order block management, license management and preparation of authority reports.
  • Lead the team to evaluate, analyze, verify and maintain trade compliance regulatory data and documentation (e.g. SOP or work instructions, daily operations tracking files etc.) to support the trade compliance solution development and implementation, ensure that BASF’s trade compliance processes and standards are effectively applied across Asia Pacific (and other supported regions)
  • Monitor and improve the team’s daily operational efficiency and effectiveness to commit to Trade Compliance KL Hub’s KPI, ensure proper QC execution and identify potential improvements and implement preventive measures.
  • Support Trade Compliance related projects including dashboards & visualization, AI/digital solutions, GTS functional modifications, senior projects etc
  • Support of internal and external audits, if needed.
  • Devoted to strengthening team members’ knowledge and cultivating growth mindset, e.g. expertise enhancement, issue resolution and project management etc., communication and training with internal customers / stakeholders / other business partners.
  • Commit to continuous development of personnel and talent within the team members of Trade Compliance Asia Pacific Operations

 

 

 

Requirements

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree and above in chemical engineering, chemistry, natural science, legal, or business management

Working Experience

  • Min 8 years’ working experience with direct experience in at least one Trade Compliance related field (e.g. Compliance, Supply Chain, Customs, Product Safety, Treasury etc.)
  • Good understanding business operations and supply chain management would be beneficial

 

Technical & Professional Knowledge

  • Prior people management and leadership experience is a must; experience in organizational transformation and working in matrix organizations a plus
  • Affinity to compliance topics
  • Excellent deductive reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Entrepreneurial drive to take ownership until resolution
  • Strong interpersonal skills and can-do spirit
  • Fluent English and one additional language of regional relevance business is a plus
