Objectives of the Position

 

The Customs Classification Executive is responsible for all related activities required for Global customs classification, HS codes of BASF products and raw materials as well as other non-chemical materials to be classified. This role is part of the Global Customs Classification team and needs to closely work together with the National Customs Classification team.

He or she supporting Senior Execute to ensure high‑quality classifications in collecting and assessing all relevant technical and regulatory information, coordinating with responsible units where information is missing.

A key part of the role is the documentation and justification of customs tariff numbers, including internal documentation and formal justifications to support colleagues globally or to address inquiries from customs authorities. Responsible to keep classifications up to date by monitoring regulatory changes and relevant court decisions, reassessing product classifications as needed.

 

Main Areas of Responsibilities and Key Activities

 

Delivery of Customs service to business

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal working partners in support of trade compliance, supply chain, and general company objectives and projects

Support business unit queries related to customs such as classification, duty and analysis

  • Respond promptly to ad-hoc requests or urgent issues, providing support for special projects or tasks as they arise, with guidance
  • Flexible to adapt to global working hours and supporting different time zone

 

Customs Classification responsibilities:

  • Customs classification of BASF products, raw materials and non-chemical materials and mainte­nance of master data for customs classification in BASF's databases
  • Global responsibility for non-chemical materials
  • Global supported-governance role regarding customs classification for the BASF Group
  • Identification of relevant customs laws and regulations as well as new customs issues
  • Keep up with regulations and take immediate action to comply with the latest requirement
  • Support in the data preparation required for dashboards, reporting, including alerts and analysis
  • Proactively address and resolve any discrepancies or customs-related issues (e.g. tariff classification mismatch, etc.) by troubleshooting the root cause and communicating clearly with relevant parties, with guidance
  • Able to interpreting regulatory texts
  • Management of share point / team folders including access, retention and record keeping policy adherence
  • Support in the development of concepts for the implementation of legal requirements and in the optimization of customs classification processes in the BASF Group
  • Collaborate with Senior Executive in global harmonization of customs classification data and BASF’s IT processes on customs classification
  • Support and understanding of BASF interests at national and international authorities and associations
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance in collaboration with the business units and group companies
  • Monitoring and processing duty suspensions and tariff quotas if any

 

Customs Compliance responsibilities:

  • Execute customs compliance related assessment, health checks, audit and its documentation
  • Responsible for operational and service documentation including Standard Operating Procedure, Work Instructions, Work Guide
  • Ensure all activities comply with relevant customs regulations, trade laws and tariff schedules

 

Process and system improvement responsibilities

  • Support any digitalization initiatives or automation for customs process and operations
  • Support any system upgrade or enhancement related review and testing

 

Job Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineer or any major in sciences related subjects
  • Minimum 1-3 years’ relevant experience in Customs Classification of chemical products, Customs and Foreign Trade; familiar with Supply Chain operations
  • Experience in customs classification of non-chemical is desirable
  • Chemical or Pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Exposure with global time zone stakeholders
  • Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply
  • Experience in customs, Foreign Trade law, Rules of classification and practices of chemical and non-chemical products is desirable
  • Understand and able to interpret regulatory texts
  • Good Microsoft office knowledge
  • Good analytical and work management skills
  • English (fluent in spoken and written)
  • Other countries’ language will be advantages
