Objectives of the Position
The Customs Classification Senior Executive is responsible for all related activities required for customs classification of BASF products and raw materials as well as other non-chemical materials to be classified. He or she must comply with the applicable laws and customs regulations to ensure a correct and up-to-date classification. In the role, he or she is part of the Global Customs Classification team and needs to closely work together with the National Customs Classification Senior Executive.
Main Tasks
Delivery of Customs service to business
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal working partners in support of trade compliance, supply chain, and general company objectives and projects
Support business unit queries related to customs such as classification, duty and analysis - Support organizing meeting with countries and any business review as necessary
- Respond promptly to ad-hoc requests or urgent issues, providing support for special projects or tasks as they arise
Customs Classification responsibilities
- Customs classification of BASF products, raw materials and non-chemical materials and maintenance of master data for customs classification in BASF's databases
- Global responsibility for non-chemical materials
- Global supported-governance role regarding customs classification for the BASF Group
- Identification of relevant customs laws and regulations as well as new customs issues
- Keep up with regulations and take immediate action to comply with the latest requirement
- Prepare monthly statistics and KPI report, monitor performance to ensure smooth operations
- Support the data preparation required for dashboards, including alerts and analysis
- Support the standardization of reporting of departmental and organizational measurements
- Support the automation of routine data collection and develop reporting processes that aid operational performance management
- Proactively address and resolve any discrepancies or customs-related issues (e.g.tariff classification mismatch, etc.) by troubleshooting the root cause and communicating clearly with relevant parties
- Management of service mailbox including setup, access, out of office reply, retention and trouble shooting
- Management of share point / team folders including access, retention and record keeping policy adherence
- Participation in the development of concepts for the implementation of legal requirements and in the optimization of customs classification processes in the BASF Group
- Support of the global harmonization of customs classification data and BASF’s IT processes on customs classification
- Support and understanding of BASF interests at national and international authorities and associations
- Ensuring regulatory compliance in collaboration with the business units and group companies
- Information, training and consulting support for the BASF Group companies, business units and group companies worldwide
- Monitoring and processing duty suspensions and tariff quotas if any
- Processing of IT-specific questions within the scope of the classification work and representation of the group interests in this work area
Customs Compliance responsibilities
- Support Customs Compliance related assessment, health checks, audit and its documentation
- Support operational and service documentation including Standard Operating Procedure, Work Instructions, Work Guide
- Ensure all activities comply with relevant customs regulations, trade laws and tariff schedules
Process and system improvement responsibilities
- Support any digitalization initiatives or automation for customs process and operations
- Support any system upgrade or enhancement related review and testing
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering or any major in sciences related subjects
Working Experience
- Minimum 2-3 years’ relevant experience in Classification, Customs and Foreign Trade; familiar with Supply Chain operations
Technical & Professional Knowledge
- Experience in customs, trade law and practices of chemical and non-chemical products is desirable
- Good Microsoft office knowledge
- Good analytical and work management skills
- Good knowledge of SAP and SAP GTS is highly desirable
- English (fluent in spoken and written)
- Other countries’ language will be advantages
