We are looking for a Chemist II to join our Coatings team in Southfield, MI.

 

In this role, you will be responsible for managing multiple projects’ and communicating deliverables to all key stake holders. The successful candidate must have high level of entrepreneurial drive with ability to think technically, strategically, and analytically while navigating through all functions, levels, regions within Surventis at the customer.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for you to demonstrate your varied skills, including maintaining, contributing to, and leading EHS and 6S standards and continuous improvement. You will also need to be able to lift up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.

 

 

What you will do...

 

  • Formulating paint based on established guidelines in collaboration with global teams. You will work in a lab to make paint samples, evaluate the samples for performance, and identify the adjustments necessary to match standards per customer specifications.
  • Working in a lab to make and test paint samples to internal and customer specifications and evaluating formulas for workability and film performance to ensure they meet customer requirements.
  • Collaborating with global customization technical teams for introduction of new technologies in the North America market
  • Collaborating with Regional Key Accounts and Field service teams to address technical requests / trouble shooting projects related to new or existing products, by managing, initiating, and coordinating projects together with production sites.
  • Driving and supporting the achievement of profitable growth through continuous improvement and executing of cost saving measures of existing products and raw materials.
  • Working in SAP and other computer systems to establish codes, inspections plans, and make formulation changes.

If you have...

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a science major with 3 years of experience in Automotive color / paint or Masters with 2 years’ experience or Ph.D. in Polymers or Coatings
  • Development of coating systems for automotive coatings (focus on base coat and primers).
  • Comfortable using SAP.
  • Experience and breadth in coating chemistries and with multiple paint systems and layers.
  • Experience interacting with external customers.
  • Experience working in a dynamic environment with ability to manage changing priorities.
  • Project Management experience.
