Where the Chemistry Happens:
This position will work in a team environment under the supervision of the Team Leader to perform testing in the corrosion and non-destructive testing labs at the Jackson, MI site. Working in both labs, the employee will train in both areas and provide support to both as need as determined by the Team Leader and workflow prioritization.
Formula for Success:
- Corrosion Testing
- Writes test reports
- Prepares and organizes test samples
- Performs analysis according to test methods, procedures, and instructions
- Evaluates samples at conclusion of testing
- Maintains supplies and inventory logs for all physical testing requirements
- Troubleshoot problems, as required
- Participates in proficiency studies
- Conducts preventative maintenance and internal calibrations/verifications of physical testing equipment
- Assists with lab quality activities as needed
- Non-Destructive Testing
- Prepare and sign all required documentation
- Maintain laboratory equipment and workspace
- Support investigation of product quality concerns (root cause analysis)
- Perform required NDT testing of manufactured goods according to approved test methods, procedures and instructions
- Maintain lab calibration, validation, verification records and logs. Assist with method validations (Gage R&R) and measurement uncertainty as required.
- Support continuous improvement and accreditation activities
- Perform other duties as required to support lab operations
- Physical Requirements
- Includes sitting, walking, standing, alternate sit/stand and viewing monitor
- Simple grasping frequently, power grasping, fine manipulation with hands, pushing and pulling with hands, reaching above shoulder level
- Lifting and carrying up to 50lbs
- Ingredients for Success
- BS Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering is preferred -OR- Bachelor's degree in a related physical science with 8-16 credits in chemistry
- 0-3 years of experience in Corrosion Testing and/or Non-Destructive Testing is preferred
- Experience in wet chemistry and analytical methodology (e.g., colorimetric or potentiometric titration methodology, specific gravity, volumetric/ gravimetric analysis, pH) preferred
- Experience with ISO 17025 and/or AS9100 standards preferred
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and interpersonal skills
- Self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision
