Job Title: Human Resources Business Partner – Refinish Coatings (RFN) North America

Now hiring! Human Resources Business Partner

Southfield, MI

We are looking for a Human Resources Business Partner to join our Refinish team in Southfield, MI!

New finish, Proven expertise. Bolder ambition.

If you're someone who inspires others, owns their impact, and wants to elevate what they do, you'll fit right in.

Until July 1, our business was part of BASF. As part of the current transition, all job listings and the application process are still hosted on the BASF platform and therefore fully presented in BASF branding.  Please do not be confused by this: All roles are positions at Surventis, and your application will be submitted to us.

At Surventis, we go beyond the surface - in everything we do. We put customers at the center, think one step ahead, and develop solutions that create real value and lasting partnerships.  We inspire each other to think further, take ownership of our work, and constantly push to elevate what's possible. If you bring your full self, challenge the obvious answer, and want to grow with a team that means it - this is your place.

The role:

Join us as an HR Business Partner supporting Refinish Coatings (RFN) North America, a business entering an exciting new chapter as part of our transition to an independent organization. This role is far more than traditional HR business partnering; it is an opportunity to help shape the future of a growth-focused business undergoing transformation.

You will partner directly with commercial and functional leaders across the RFN organization, helping build the capabilities, culture, organization, and leadership required to accelerate growth and create shareholder value. As a trusted advisor, you will influence business decisions, challenge conventional thinking, and help leaders navigate change while ensuring we attract, retain, develop, and engage exceptional talent.

The ideal candidate is an entrepreneur at heart - someone who thrives in dynamic environments, embraces ambiguity, and sees HR as a lever for business performance. We are looking for a leader who understands that people strategies should drive revenue growth, productivity, organizational effectiveness, and long-term value creation.

As part of the North America Human Resources team, you will work closely with business leaders, Centers of Excellence, and global stakeholders to build a high-performing organization that can compete and win in the marketplace. This is an opportunity to leave a lasting impact on a business redefining its future.

As a Human Resources Business Partner, you will...

  • View HR through a business lens and understand how organizational decisions impact growth, profitability, productivity, and customer success. You connect people strategy directly to business outcomes and help leaders make informed decisions that create measurable value.
  • Thrive in fast-moving environments and naturally seek opportunities to improve, simplify, and transform. You are energized by building something new, challenging the status quo, and identifying creative solutions that enable business success.
  • Serve as a trusted thought partner to senior leaders, providing candid feedback, organizational insights, and practical recommendations. Your strong business acumen allows you to influence decisions on talent, structure, capability, and culture.
  • Lead organizations through transformation with confidence and credibility. Whether supporting organizational redesign, capability building, workforce planning, or cultural evolution, you help leaders navigate complexity and deliver sustainable results.
  • Understand that talent is a competitive advantage. You drive succession planning, leadership development, performance management, and workforce strategies that strengthen organizational capability and prepare the business for future growth.
  • Continuously look for opportunities to increase organizational effectiveness, improve productivity, strengthen leadership, and optimize talent investments. You focus on outcomes, not activity, ensuring Human Resources initiatives contribute directly to business performance.
  • Build strong partnerships across functions, geographies, and leadership levels. You bring people together to solve problems, share best practices, and deliver results for the business.
  • Embrace technology, analytics, and AI to improve decision-making, simplify processes, and enhance the employee experience. You leverage data and insights to identify opportunities and drive measurable business outcomes.
  • Build organizational capability that accelerates business growth.
  • Develop leaders who drive accountability, engagement, and performance.
  • Create scalable people solutions that support business transformation.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and improve organizational effectiveness.
  • Serve as a trusted business advisor who contributes directly to RFN's value creation agenda.

If you have...

  • Demonstrated success partnering with commercial, sales, or growth-oriented organizations.
  • Strong business and financial acumen with the ability to connect people decisions to business performance.
  • Experience supporting organizational transformation, restructuring, integration, or change initiatives.
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders and drive strategic workforce decisions.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a bias toward action and continuous improvement.
  • Exceptional communication, coaching, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience utilizing data, analytics, and technology to guide decision-making.
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree, MBA, or advanced HR certifications preferred.
